Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the 2024-25 Premier League season continued with a narrow 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot following a clumsy Levi Colwill challenge, before Curtis Jones netted the winner just three minutes after Nicolas Jackson’s equaliser at the start of the second-half.

The Reds enjoyed only 43% possession at Anfield, but they reclaimed top spot in the Premier League table as Arne Slot’s impressive start to life as Liverpool manager continued.

The aforementioned Jones caught the eye with a fantastic midfield showing, while Salah showed his class with two goal contributions from the right flank.

On the other hand, Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer was underwhelming at Anfield and the England international was unable to rescue his side like he has done on so many occasions since his move from Manchester City.

Palmer earned a 6.0 match rating on FootballCritic - his joint-lowest of the campaign so far - as he failed to make a significant impact on the game.

The Englishman completed just six passes in the final-third, the same as half-time substitute Pedro Neto, only one of his four dribble attempts were successful and three of his four shots were blocked.

After blanking against Liverpool, Palmer now has eight goal contributions in 10 matches versus the Premier League ‘big-six’ during his time at Chelsea, although five of his seven goals have been from the penalty spot.

For reference, he has 36 goals contributions in 42 games against the rest of the Premier League since leaving Man City.
