The Spain U21 international netted three first-half goals during a 5-0 demolition of AVS as Porto closed the gap to league leaders Sporting CP to just three points.

Omorodion now has 11 goals in nine games for Porto, while he also bagged on four occasions during his most recent appearance for Spain’s U21 side.

Furthermore, by netting his first Primeira Liga hat-trick for Porto on Monday, the 20-year-old bettered the effort of Sporting CP superstar Viktor Gyokeres by some distance.

Gyokeres has enjoyed a sublime stint at Sporting since his move from Coventry City and his form in Portugal has resulted in significant links with the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

He has 57 goals in 64 appearances for Sporting, but his first league hat-trick for the club didn’t come until his 24th game in the competition - against Boavista in March 2024.

By comparison, Omorodion registered his first Primeira Liga hat-trick in just his sixth appearance in the division.

Of course, the Spaniard hasn’t yet matched Gyokeres’ consistent level of production, but he has starred during the opening few months of his Porto career and he appears destined for the top.

Samu Omorodion’s failed Chelsea transfer

Before ending up at Porto, Omorodion was expected to join Chelsea from Atletico Madrid.

A deal had been agreed for Omorodion to join the Stamford Bridge outfit and Conor Gallagher to move in the opposite direction, however it collapsed at the last minute.

Chelsea eventually decided to sign Joao Felix on a permanent deal, with Omorodion ending up at Porto instead.

The 20-year-old recently delved into the transfer saga, admitting to RTVE: “It was a very difficult summer.

“I went through a very difficult time because, after all, everyone knows that I was close to signing [for Chelsea], but the truth is that it didn't happen. It was for a reason: God didn't want it!”
