Ben Chilwell was offered to Borussia Dortmund in the summer and the Bundesliga side could make a move in January, according to German media.

The Chelsea vice-captain finds himself on the outside looking in at Stamford Bridge. Not favoured by new boss Enzo Maresca, the Italian bluntly and publically told Chilwell to find a new club in the summer.

However, despite some tentative enquiries, no move materialised. A big earner and injury-prone, Chilwell was not deemed a particularly exciting option by the myriad clubs he was offered to.

The former England international thus remained in west London and, though he is now training with the squad again, still does not feature in Maresca's plans. Indeed, a January exit seems all but guaranteed at this point.

Chilwell to...Dortmund?

A move to a Premier League side has been mooted, with West Ham linked, while FootballTransfers understands that Chilwell's ex-club Leicester also hold an interest.

However, the 27-year-old may also have options abroad. According to Sky Germany, Borussia Dortmund were offered the left-back's services but decided against signing him after 'intensive discussions.'

Getting Chilwell was genuinely considered but concerns over his price, injury record and tactical suitability meant that it was ultimately decided that there was no real need for him.

However, the German outlet states that this stance could yet soften between now and January. In fact, one of Dortmund's priorities is to bolster their full-back options, with the club now feeling that they are quite light in that department.

Therefore, it is not impossible for BVB to revisit a deal for Chilwell. It is claimed that the option is 'not off the table' and could even 'pick up steam.' At this stage, however, a move to Germany seems highly unlikely.
