The 51-year-old has been heavily linked with the vacant role at Wembley Stadium and he has now reached an agreement with the Football Association, according to The Times.

Tuchel is expected to be unveiled as Gareth Southgate’s successor this week, with interim boss Lee Carsley set to return to England’s U21 side.

The ex-Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain boss has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season and he had been touted as a possible replacement for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

However, Tuchel has now ended speculation of a move to Old Trafford by agreeing to become the first foreign manager to take charge of England since Fabio Capello departed in 2012.

He will become the first ever German-born coach to manage the England senior side and only the third ever foreign boss after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Capello.

Thomas Tuchel to become new England manager

The FA initiated contact with Tuchel last month and he has now agreed a deal to become the new permanent England manager.

Tuchel enjoyed a successful 18 months at Chelsea, winning the Champions League, Club World Cup and Super Cup during his time in west London, and he is said to have kept a keen eye on the Premier League since his departure.

The German reportedly believes England are strong contenders to win the 2026 World Cup and he will begin preparations for the tournament upon his unveiling.

England reached the finals of both Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, but they fell to a penalty shootout defeat to Italy in the former before a crushing 2-1 loss to Spain in the latter.

Southgate opted to resign following England's defeat this summer and Carsley has been in interim charge ever since.

However, Carsley is expected to return to his role as England U21 head coach when Tuchel officially takes charge.
