Manchester United supporters have been left stunned at the squad Erik ten Hag has picked for the Red Devils’ Europa League clash with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce on Thursday.

Speaking prior to the game, Mourinho claimed that Man Utd have nothing to fear from his side, yet fans of the Old Trafford club do not appear reassured by the travelling squad named by the Premier League outfit for the match.

There is one standout area in particular that United supporters appear particularly wary of: the midfield.

Ten Hag has named only three midfield players for the fixture, with Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Manuel Ugarte set to comprise the middle of the park for the Red Devils.

This led to sarcastic responses from supporters when the club’s official media channels confirmed the squad along with the tag: “Erik’s options for Thursday night.”

“What do you mean Erik’s options?” one fan replied.

“I wonder who he’ll start in midfield,” another ironically pondered.

A third chipped in: “Only three midfielders is really bad though.”

“Mourinho will use us to mop the floors,” one more said.

Finally, another popular reply was a fan by simply stating: “3 midfielders” followed by four crying emojis.

Why is Bruno Fernandes not in the Man Utd squad?

Many supporters were asking why Bruno Fernandes was not involved in the Man Utd travelling party to face Fenerbahce.

Bruno will miss this match – just the second of the season that he will sit out – because of a ban picked up in the 3-3 draw against Porto in the previous Europa League clash.

He was sent-off for picking up two bookings with nine minutes of that encounter remaining, but that did not stop Harry Maguire scoring a levelling goal in a thrilling clash in stoppage-time.
