Jonathan David will leave Lille on a free transfer next summer, but the race to sign him is still heating up, according to a report.

The Canada international has established himself as one of Ligue 1's deadliest strikers since joining Lille. However, his contract with Les Dogues expires next summer and, according to Matteo Moretto, there is no chance of him signing an extension.

The 24-year-old has been in demand for some time, with Chelsea and Man Utd interested in him in the summer, though both ultimately pursued different options.

Due to his contract situation, he is once again one of Europe's most sought-after commodities, being viewed as a so-called 'market opportunity' by suitors even if, as Moretto states, he is on a hefty wage and won't come cheap, also due to agent commissions.

But what clubs are interested in signing him? There are several, according to the Relevo journalist.

Who could sign David?

Barcelona have been linked with the Canadian and Moretto has confirmed that the LaLiga giants are indeed keeping tabs on David's situation. However, the cash-strapped Catalans have yet to make any direct contact with the player's camp.

Other clubs have been much more diligent and engaged. Serie A heavyweights Inter and Juventus, for example, are already on the case and 'active.' AC Milan, meanwhile, are not an option as things stand.

Atletico Madrid are not expected to get involved in the race despite a long-standing interest in the striker. As for the Premier League, nothing concrete has as yet materialised, but Moretto expects there to be significant movement in the coming months, though he did not name any clubs.

The race to sign Jonathan David has seemingly only just begun. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea and/or Man Utd will reignite their interest before January.
