Manchester United may have had a difficult start to the season, but the Old Trafford club are lining up a sensational January transfer that promises to rock Real Madrid.

Erik ten Hag’s club are chasing a spectacular move for Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies and are ready to pounce on the Canada international as soon as possible, according to a report from Fichajes.

This follows from German reports over the weekend that Man Utd are “dreaming” of the player, but this goes one step further by stating that the Red Devils will seek to push through a deal immediately.

Indeed, it is claimed that the Premier League giants are ready to go “all-in” on Davies during the January transfer window.

Competition is likely to be stern from Real Madrid. The previous rumours indicated that the Spaniards were ahead in the race for the full-back, and during January they will have the opportunity to talk terms with him over joining in the summer of 2025, when he becomes a free agent.

Equally, it is thought that if Man Utd are willing to match the player’s wage demands, they have a chance of landing the 23-year-old.

What is Alphonso Davies’ transfer fee?

With Bayern ready to break off contract talks with Davies, it is unclear what type of fee they might accept in January to recoup some of the €14 million they invested in the player when they signed him from the Vancouver Whitecaps back in 2019.

He has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €40.3m, though this is lower than his true worth due to his contract expiring in six months. In the past, his ETV has reached as high as €84.5m.

With Man Utd desperate for a left-back, it may be that the Red Devils are willing to pay this type of fee for a world-class performer. Davies, after all, is the best full-back in the Bundesliga so far this season, according to SciSports.

Indeed, despite Davies’ contract status, he still ranks as the seventh most valuable wing-back in the game.

In order for Man Utd to stand a realistic chance of luring such a talent to Old Trafford, though, Ten Hag surely needs to improve the club’s league position to sell the team as one that can achieve Champions League football and challenge for trophies in the not-too-distant future.
