Man Utd get €10m discount on Ruben Amorim

Manchester United won't have to pay Ruben Amorim's full release clause due to a 'pact,' according to a report.

The Sporting CP boss has quickly emerged as Man Utd's top option to replace Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman was sacked on Monday after the Red Devils lost 2-1 to struggling West Ham at the weekend.

Already later that same day, reports emerged that the club's new INEOS hierarchy had begun working on a deal to appoint Amorim as the 54-year-old's successor.

Amorim, keen on a Premier League move for some time, quickly agreed to terms laid out by Man Utd. With arguably the most part of the deal wrapped up, the Old Trafford outfit would then have had to trigger his €20 million release clause to buy him out of his contract.

However, Man Utd this did not materialise because Man Utd will not have to trigger this clause.

Amorim can leave for €10m

According to Ben Jacobs and various other sources, Sporting CP and Amorim agreed on a 'pact' that allows the 39-year-old to join a top European club for just half of his release clause.

So, rather than having to splurge a sizeable €20m - one of the biggest fees ever paid for a manager - Man Utd will only have to shell out €10m in compensation for Amorim.

This, however, also means that Man Utd will have to negotiate with Sporting CP on all of the terms of Amorim's exit instead of just informing the club that they will trigger his clause.

With Portuguese clubs notorious for being expert negotiators, talks over Amorim could yet continue for some time even if the basic details of his move to Old Trafford are already agreed upon.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the side in the EFL Cup against Leicester City on Wednesday. At the weekend, Man Utd host Enzo Maresca's in-form Chelsea.
