Victor Osimhen could land his dream Premier League transfer in January, with Chelsea in position to have a “second shot” at the Napoli striker, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

Chelsea were one of a number of clubs who sought to sign Osimhen in the summer transfer window, but a deal broke down dramatically on Deadline Day as they failed to match the player’s wage demands.

With the prospect of the 25-year-old Nigeria international being frozen out of action, he elected to leave Napoli for Galatasaray on a temporary basis.

Corriere dello Sport has indicated that the Super Lig club are ready to try to make the deal permanent by matching Osimhen’s release fee, which has dropped to €75 million for clubs outside of Serie A.

Chelsea also have the possibility of making a raid for the striker, though he would cost the Blues €81m. This includes a €6m payment to the Super Lig club for severing his loan deal midway through the season.

Osimhen reportedly remains interested in talks with the Blues, despite the Stamford Bridge side falling somewhat short of his salary demands when they spoke in August.

Chelsea with a big decision to make

Although the door is open for Chelsea to make a move, it is unclear whether the London club will take the opportunity.

Manager Enzo Maresca already has an enormous squad while in his attacking line Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have 11 goals between them this season.

A move next summer seems more probable as this would give Chelsea more time to clean out some of the deadwood in their ranks and build properly for the arrival of Osimhen.

However, given the price he may be available at in January, the Blues might see this as the type of market opportunity they need to grasp immediately to snare one of the world’s most dangerous goal scorers for a relatively cheap fee.
