Chelsea fans have slammed Robert Sanchez after the Spaniard conceded a penalty against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

With the score poised at 0-0 at Old Trafford, Sanchez foolishly brought down Man Utd forward Rasmus Hojlund, with his hands catching the Dane’s boot from within the six-yard box.

Sanchez has now conceded two penalties in just 10 Premier League appearances so far this season, with the former Brighton & Hove Albion also bringing down Evanilson against Bournemouth.

The 26-year-old redeemed himself by saving the Brazilian’s spot kick effort versus the Cherries, but he guessed wrong against Man Utd and Bruno Fernandes rolled the ball into the opposite corner to put the Red Devils 1-0 up.

Sanchez’s distribution has also been heavily criticised this season, while Jamie Carragher branded him as “scared” during Chelsea’s defeat to Liverpool in October.

Despite this, Enzo Maresca has retained faith in the Spaniard and the Blues boss has insisted that summer signing Filip Jorgensen isn’t close to replacing Sanchez as his first-choice goalkeeper.

The Denmark U21 international joined Chelsea from Villarreal for €24.5 million in July, but he is yet to make his Premier League debut, with Jorgensen’s only action thus far coming in cup competitions.

Moises Caicedo spared Sanchez’s blushes with a thunderous strike in the 74th minute against Man Utd, but the 1-1 draw means Chelsea have failed to beat the Red Devils at Old Trafford in each of their last 12 visits.
