Chelsea close in on deal for ex-Arsenal star's wonderkid son

Chelsea are in talks to sign Mathis Eboue, the teenage son of former Arsenal player Emmanuel Eboue, according to a report.

Since the Todd Boehly takeover in 2022, the Blues have made it their mission to snap up the brightest talents in world football. Scores of wonderkids have arrived at Stamford Bridge over the past two years, while yet more are already confirmed as joining the club next year.

South American prospects Willian Estevao and Kendry Paez are linking up with Chelsea upon turning 18 next year and the former in particular has sparked huge excitement in west London.

But those two are far from the only ones to have been signed and the club's recruitment department is not slowing down in the pursuit of top talents despite the fact that this policy has come under a bit of criticism.

Chelsea to sign Eboue

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are in talks with Championship side Watford over compensation for Mathis Eboue, the son of former Ivory Coast international and Arsenal full-back Emmanuel Eboue.

Despite being just 15 years of age, the youngster is already playing - and scoring - for Watford's U21s, while he is also winning accolades with England's youth teams.

In October, he scored the all-important goal that saw England beat France in the final of the U16 Pinatar Challenge Trophy. While a deal is not done yet, it seems that the Blues are optimistic about their chances of signing Eboue.

The transfer will, of course, go through the Premier League's five-step process before it can be officially completed, so even if a deal is struck with Watford, it could yet take several weeks before his move can be announced.

The length of the process differs, but it can drag on for a while. Man Utd, for example, agreed terms with teenage Arsenal striker Chido Obi-Martin in July but were only in a position to announce the deal in October.
