Chelsea end pursuit of €40m Premier League star
Chelsea are reportedly no longer interested in signing Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, despite Robert Sanchez’s indifferent form.
The Blues have purchased five new goalkeepers since Clearlake Capital’s arrival in 2025 and the club are now happy with their current options, according to Ben Jacobs.
Sanchez has received significant criticism since the start of the 2024-25 campaign, but Enzo Maresca has persisted with the Spaniard and Chelsea are unlikely to push for a new shot-stopper next summer.

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “Leicester have no plans to lose Mads Hermansen mid-season. It would likely take £35m+ to change that. The bigger fear is if Leicester go down, Hermansen would be very hard to keep.
“It was the same with James Maddison and Harvey Barnes. It's true that Enzo Maresca really trusted and liked Hermansen when he was Leicester manager, but Chelsea are not urgently seeking another goalkeeper.
“There is still trust in Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen to compete for the number one spot.

“It's also worth adding that along with Djordje Petrovic, who is on-loan at Strasbourg, Mike Penders will arrive in summer 2025. He is rated extremely highly. Chelsea believe the 19-year-old has enormous potential.”
Hermansen was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea following Maresca’s move to Stamford Bridge this summer, but the Blues were unable to finalise an agreement and the Dane has subsequently played every available Premier League minute for Leicester so far this season.
What has Enzo Maresca said about Robert Sanchez?
While Chelsea fans have constantly aired their concerns over Sanchez, Blues boss Maresca recently admitted that the Spaniard must continue to be ambitious in possession.
“It’s football and I’m the guy who asks Robbie to do that [play out from the back],” Maresca told Chelsea’s official club website after their victory over Newcastle.
“Robbie is going to do that because the moment he stops, he isn’t going to play. If he makes a mistake, it’s not Robbie’s problem, it’s my problem, my mistake, because I ask that of him.
“I am happy with how Robbie is playing and building from the back. All the goal kicks we had where he passed to Pedro [Neto] and Noni [Madueke] that kind of ball gave us a chance to attack. Sometimes you make a mistake but it’s not going to change the way we play.”
