'Start a GoFundMe' - Liverpool fans ridicule Salah contract delay

Liverpool supporters are not happy with the club's dithering over Mohamed Salah's contract.

The 'Egyptian King' dropped a bombshell piece of news regarding his expiring Liverpool deal after the Reds beat Southampton 3-2 on Sunday. Salah claimed that he has yet to receive an offer and expressed his disappointment at this state of affairs.

“We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in,” he said. “You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands.

"As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end, it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands...I’m disappointed but we will see.”

As pointed out by several outlets, this was a calculated move on the part of Salah to put pressure on the club, with Liverpool sources insisting that talks with his agent Ramy Abbas have actually been ongoing for some time.

Fans lash out at club

Nevertheless, Salah's comments have had the desired effect, at least in the fanbase. Supporters have expressed their dismay at the club's dithering given the importance of the 32-year-old under new coach Arne Slot.

Liverpool posted a graphic on their social media accounts to celebrate Salah reaching a stunning 10 goals and six assists in just 12 Premier League games, but fans made their feelings clear in the comments.

One supporter wrote: "Maybe just...extend his contract?" Another quipped: "If money is a problem set [up] a GoFundMe to extend his contract, we will pay."

"Stop making edits and get a contract agreed like every single fan, player and staff member wants," someone wrote, with another supporter going even further by saying: "Give him that contract or FSG out!"
