The Portuguese coach has joined the Old Trafford club from Sporting CP, replacing the now departed Erik ten Hag.

Amorim has spoken about not changing from his 3-4-3 formation, for now at least. And it's thought that, if United use wing-backs, it could open the door for Mantato, reports the MEN.

The outlet states that: "Mantato has bundles of pace, he plays with high intensity and his dribbling is a huge asset, which are all skills that could endear him to Amorim when the new head coach settles in.

"The youngster, who scored against Everton at the weekend, is viewed as a versatile talent who could play as a wing-back on both sides and is a prospect worth keeping an eye on."

The Red Devils have seen the likes of Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo promoted to the first-team and maintain their place in the starting XI.

Mantato is 16 years of age and is considered to be one of the best up-and-coming players in the United academy. He joined the club's school aged nine and made his debut for England's Under-16s earlier this year.

Amorim has joined United at a time when the club are enduring a poor season but did see an uptick in results during the tenure of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has since left the club entirely despite returning to Old Trafford only in the summer.

According to The Sun, the former assistant manager of the club could be the Lancashire club's successor to Scott Parker, who is under a lot of pressure.

Even though there is speculation, there is currently no official contact between Burnley and Van Nistelrooy, interest seems to be flaring up again. It is not the first time that Burnley have set their sights on Van Nistelrooy.
