Amorim ready to FAST-TRACK Man Utd wonderkid
Manchester United’s Chido Obi-Martin will be fast-tracked by new head coach Ruben Amorim into the first team, according to a report.
Obi-Martin completed a high-profile move from Arsenal in the summer as a free agent, and though the deal with Man Utd was somewhat drawn out due to legal issues, the 16-year-old has a huge future at Old Trafford.
He has made a rapid start to life with the U18 squad, scoring four goals in four appearances in the U18 Premier League, yet this figure is all the more impressive considering he has only played 172 minutes of action.
Obi-Martin has been earning “rave reviews” from his coaches and, according to GMS, will be pushed on a fast-track to Amorim’s first-team squad.
When will Obi-Martin make his Man Utd debut?
Obi-Martin is not expected to appear for Amorim any time soon, however.
Technical director Jason Wilcox, academy head Nick Cox and coach Darren Fletcher may all have discussed the talented teen with Amorim, but while the youngster has been put on the Portuguese’s radar, he still has steps to go before featuring in the first team.
He is expected to be involved in some U21 matches in the coming weeks, while there is also the prospect of being involved in some first-team training sessions. This is all still rather distant from featuring in the Premier League yet does show Man Utd’s intention to get him involved.
Lack of forward options
The Old Trafford side are not blessed with options in the No.9 role.
Rasmus Hojlund is the clear first choice in the centre-forward position, with summer signing Joshua Zirkzee already reportedly set to leave the club after a poor start to life in England.
Beyond this pair, Marcus Rashford can be used as a 9 but is more comfortable out wide.
Obi-Martin’s promise is, therefore, something that Man Utd are very excited about because it could save them millions in the transfer market.
