The 39-year-old was appointed as Erik ten Hag’s permanent replacement in late October, but a notice period clause in his contract at Sporting CP ensured that he was unable to take over immediately.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was therefore placed in interim charge, with the Red Devils legend guiding Man Utd to three wins and one draw during his four matches at the helm.

The Dutchman’s time in the Old Trafford dugout has now ended, although Amorim won’t be able to start duties at Man Utd on Monday as he is still waiting for a work permit, as per The Daily Mail.

Amorim was expected to start work at the Red Devils’ Carrington Training Centre on 11 November ahead of his first game in charge against Ipswich Town following the conclusion of the upcoming international break.

However, he will be forced to wait to start his duties until he receives a UK work permit.

Amorim will travel to Manchester following his final Sporting CP match against Braga on Sunday evening, but he won’t be able to officially start work until his application for a work permit is approved.

Ruud van Nistelrooy on his future

After Man Utd’s win over Leicester, Van Nistelrooy opened up on his future at Old Trafford, with questions over whether he will return to an assistant manager role under Amorim.

“I can only describe that moment, how I felt and as a closure of this block of four games, it felt like a closure for that period and the future is open,” he admitted to reporters.

“That is the way I felt it. It was a beautiful moment to be able to share that with the supporters and, yeah, it was special.”
