"This lot kinda... stinks" - Social media reacts to Ruben Amorim's Man Utd debut
Manchester United scored 81 seconds into their first-half under new head coach Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils blasted their way into an early lead with a sensational goal. After an eyebrow-raising team selection where Amad Diallo was at wing-back, the Ivorian justified Ruben Amorim's team selection.
After a neat one-two with captain Bruno Fernandes, Amad raced away down the right flank, escaping and evading Ipswich defenders before curling a right-footed cross into the box.
That cross was met by perhaps the most heavily scrutinised Man Utd player: Marcus Rashford. The striker made a sharp near-post run and poked the ball home before Muric in the Ipswich goal could collect the cross.

However, just when Man Utd fans felt they could maybe start to get carried away the team brought them back down to earth with a bump by sitting off Ipswich and allowing their hosts back into the game.
The Tractor Men gladly obliged and began looking the more threatening side. They gleefully exposed that, owing to injuries and the international break, Ruben Amorim was still relying on the likes of Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Jonny Evans.
Ipswich pressed and pressed and, in the dying moments of the first-half, found their equaliser as a stunning strike from Omari Hutchinson flew into the roof of the net via a deflection off Noussair Mazraoui.
The second-half was a much less dramatic affair, with both Ipswich and Man Utd missing great chances to win it.
Needless to say, social media has had a lot to say.

Opta started by filling us in on Man Utd equalling a Premier League record.
2 - Rúben Amorim is only the second permanent manager in Premier League history to see his side score within the opening two minutes of his very first game in charge in the competition, along with David Moyes with Everton in March 2002. Dreamland. pic.twitter.com/tQAFY0Kbov

Others delighted for Marcus Rashford:
Get in Rashy! What a start to the Amorim era. 80 seconds in and he's already trolling Brent.
— No Question About That (@nqatpod) November 24, 2024
Marcus Rashford has now scored as many Premier League goals (85) as Eden Hazard & Fernando Torres. He’s 10 away from equalling Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record.
Not bad company. 🤝 pic.twitter.com/7rXVsOROUp— Statman Dave (@StatmanDave) November 24, 2024
A radio host recently said Rashford "looked like a rapper" while in NY and was criticising him for being on holiday. Phil Foden, who was actually PICTURED with rappers in Dubai during the same international break - nothing said. Is he even playing today?

That New York trip did the rapper a world of good

Rashford goal two minutes in. I’ve seen all I need to see. Amorim > Sir Alex.

Of course, some love was shown to Amad Diallo:
AMAD GENIUS pic.twitter.com/msuzep2cEq

Nah Amad that’s amazing. To keep the ball from where he picked it up and deliver that assist
— gagatha 🖤 (@CasaDupre) November 24, 2024
We need more players on Mazraoui and Amad’s technical level. It’s crying out as much as the lack of physicality

Of course, Opta had some knowledge to drop after Omari Hutchinson's incredible equaliser shocked Man Utd at the end of the first-half.
4 - Only Manchester City (7) and Nottingham Forest (5) have scored more Premier League goals from outside the box than Ipswich Town this season (4), with all four being scored by different players (Szmodics, Delap, Morsy & Hutchinson). Range. pic.twitter.com/QAVABvBq2z

Chelsea made a mistake it supposed to be Noni Madueke shipped out of the team instead of Omari Hutchinson.
What a Player !!!— Ahenkan 💙 (@DjoletoT) November 24, 2024
Meanwhile Arsenal and Chelsea fans fought over just who Hutchinson was "made" by.

Ultimately, the half ended 1-1 and the much less eventful second-half had a few interesting moments, such as the reappearance of Luke Shaw.

Liam Delap got some praise for his rugged approach to the game.
Delap is an absolute battering ram i love it. It’s rare you see strikers that have good technique that still play like old school CFs
— 🦑 (@tmzette) November 24, 2024
Delap has great ability but he is definitely the son of his father. Zero tolerance. Loves a scrap. Gets stuck in. He deffo watched them tapes. I love that

Meanwhile Alejandro Garnacho came in for some criticism after he wasted some incredible chances to either score or set his team-mates up for tap-ins.
Alejandro Garnacho winds me up a lot. Ego of Cristiano Ronaldo, Talent of Chesney from Corrie.

— vdr (@vadersruleoftwo) November 24, 2024
Garnacho has one of the highest ceilings in the club and I love him to death but if he doesn't hack passing the ball to his teammates, he will be playing for Bourdeaux in 5 years.
— Nobody (@dharnyyoung) November 24, 2024
Not for a minute did I think Garnacho was find Rashford on that break
— Ronaldo Brown (@ronaldobrown_98) November 24, 2024
playing garnacho full90 will cost you your job.. you didnt learn from the last guy huh

Ultimately, what is clear is that there is plenty of work for Ruben Amorim to do:
Ruben Amorim will need a lot of patience from the fans. This lot kinda… stinks.
