Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United already have plans to dump one of their senior players at the end of the season.

Ruben Amorim has taken his first training session at Carrington after being appointed to take command of the club following Erik ten Hag’s sacking, but the clock is already ticking on Christian Eriksen’s time at the club.

Having arrived as a free agent in 2022 following a successful stint at Brentford following a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020, Eriksen has been largely peripheral to matters at Old Trafford.

His contract is up at the end of the season, and unless there is a dramatic U-turn in events, Romano says he will be departing as a free agent.

“Manchester United and Christian Eriksen are still expected to part ways at the end of the season,” Romano has announced.

“No negotiations taking place over new deal, while Ruben Amorim’s opinion will also be considered — but Eriksen’s expected to leave.”

Eriksen expected to have Amorim problem

The 32-year-old former Tottenham star is not expected to feature prominently for Man Utd during the Amorim era primarily because he is not the type of high-intensity midfielder that the Portuguese will expect in his team.

Equally, he is unlikely to be seen as the type of technician who can thrive further up the field, with Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Amad Diallo among those vying for the inside forward positions in what is expected to be a 3-4-3 formation deployed by the new boss.
