Manchester United are planning at least two signings for January 2025, according to a report.

The Red Devils endured their worst-ever start to a Premier League season under Erik ten Hag and the Dutchman lost his job as a result. Ruben Amorim will start in his new role on Monday and the excitement is palpable.

There may not be an immediate improvement, but Amorim is deservedly considered one of the brightest up-and-coming coaching minds in football. Still, a potential issue could be the squad at his disposal.

Amorim prefers playing with a back-three system, but Man Utd's roster has not been built for such a style of play. Good transfers will therefore be a necessity and the Portuguese must have a big say in who arrives despite only bearing the title of 'head coach' rather than 'manager.'

According to Sky Germany, the first major moves could already materialise in January.

Man Utd want a striker and midfielder

Reporter Florian Plettenberg claims that Man Utd are looking to complete at least two deals in the winter window. For one, the Red Devils are aiming to add an 'affordable' striker to their ranks, though specific targets were not disclosed.

Additionally, Man Utd want to sign a central midfielder who can operate as a No.8 and on that front, the journalist mentions Bayern Munich outcast Leon Goretzka as one of the options under consideration.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed Man Utd's interest in the 29-year-old in the summer and he is 'still being closely monitored.' However, despite barely playing, the German remains reluctant to leave.

Bayern winger Leroy Sane is also mentioned as a player on Man Utd's radar, though a January exit is deemed unlikely at this stage and signing someone in this position clearly isn't a priority.
