Ruud van Nistelrooy is on the verge of being named new Leicester City manager, according to a report.

The Manchester United legend is available after leaving his former club earlier this month following the arrival of Ruben Amorim. Van Nistelrooy had re-joined the Red Devils in the summer as part of Erik ten Hag's coaching staff and took interim charge of the side in the wake of his compatriot's sacking.

Van Nistelrooy won three out of his four games in the Man Utd dugout and emphatically told the media that he was keen on permanently getting back into first-team management.

The Dutchman was previously in charge of PSV and won the KNVB Cup as well as the Johan Cruyff Shield before surprisingly leaving the club amid reports of having fallen out with some players and the club hierarchy.

Now, the 48-year-old is set for a swift return to the Premier League.

Van Nistelrooy set for Leicester

According to The Telegraph, Van Nistelrooy is in line to be named as Leicester City's new manager following the sacking of Steve Cooper after just five months in charge.

The outlet did not state whether the Dutchman had already agreed terms with the Foxes but claimed that he could be officially unveiled before the weekend's game with Brentford.

Graham Potter and David Moyes had also been linked with the vacancy. However, the report states that there is no chance of them landing the job at this stage.

Van Nistelrooy is available without compensation and has held extensive talks with the promoted club this week. Leicester languish in 16th in the Premier League table after last weekend's 2-1 loss to Chelsea, which ultimately cost Cooper his job.

It seems to be only a matter of time before Van Nistelrooy is back in the game, having also been linked with his former club Hamburger SV after their dismissal of Steffen Baumgart this week.
