Manchester United are interested in Victor Boniface, according to German media.

The Bayer Leverkusen star has had a turbulent time in the Bundesliga. He started the new season like a house on fire but recently got into a car crash and then suffered an injury while on international duty with Nigeria that will keep him out until the new year.

When fit, Boniface is one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga and perhaps one of the most unique players in Europe. The 23-year-old plays with the exuberance of a winger despite being a towering centre-forward and has been prolific for the reigning German champions.

Boniface has scored eight goals in 15 appearances this season, taking his overall tally for Leverkusen to 29 goals in 49 outings while also providing 11 assists. If he could stay fit for a full season, he would undoubtedly be a serious contender in the Bundesliga Golden Boot race.

His fitness is, however, a big concern. Prior to arriving in Germany, he suffered two ACL injuries and he missed several months of action last term, with his current hamstring problem now the latest setback.

Man Utd want Boniface

Nevertheless, when Boniface is fully fit and firing, he is one of the most devastating forwards in Europe and this has made him a sought-after commodity.

According to Sky Germany, Man Utd have taken a liking to the Nigerian and shortlisted him as an option for 2025. The trouble is that Leverkusen will not sell in January and Boniface would be very expensive in the summer.

Additionally, the striker raised eyebrows earlier this season by insisting that he has no interest in moving to the Premier League. He didn't entirely rule out a transfer to England but admitted that he would prefer staying in Germany or moving to Spain.

Man Utd are determined to add a new striker in 2025. Ideally, they would sign someone already in January, but a summer transfer might be more realistic.

There are question marks over Boniface given his fitness, transfer desire and price, but in the right system, he could be a player akin to Ruben Amorim's former star Viktor Gyokeres. At present, however, a move seems a long shot.
