Save us, Gyokeres! Berbatov slams 'embarrassing' Man Utd strikers
Dimitar Berbatov would love to see a prolific striker like Viktor Gyokeres at Manchester United.
The Red Devils legend addressed Man Utd's scoring woes during his appearance on Monday Night Football for Fulham's clash with Brentford. Man Utd have only netted nine goals in 10 Premier League outings so far, with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund failing to impress.
Unsurprisingly, then, with Ruben Amorim set to take the reins in a few days, there have been suggestions that he could look to bring Sporting CP sharpshooter Viktor Gyokeres to Old Trafford.

This proposition certainly excites Berbatov, who believes that Man Utd's lack of goals is nothing short of 'embarrassing.' "This guy, Viktor Gyokeres, he’s scoring goals for fun right now," the ex-striker said. "I think there’s a special connection with the coach, so maybe we are probably going to see him in a United shirt at some point."
Could he solve Man Utd's problems? “From what he’s showing right now, I think yes, because our strikers at the moment are not doing and producing goals. We see with them 18th in the league for scoring goals, which is embarrassing for a club of the stature of United. This is a position where I’d like to see improvement."
Amorim: Gyokeres won't join Man Utd
However, Berbatov looks set to be disappointed, at least as things stand. Amorim himself has already ruled out the possibility of pursuing a deal for Gyokeres anytime soon.
"I’m not going to get any players from Sporting in January," he admitted. "Gyokeres costs €100 million and it’s very difficult." That said, Portuguese media insists that it is almost 'guaranteed' that the Red Devils will make contact with the Swede in the summer.

At that point, the 26-year-old will be available for €60m-€70m, with Sporting CP accepting that they won't be able to keep the goal machine at the club forever.
Whether he will suit up for Man Utd at some point remains to be seen.
