‘Gyokeres is a BETTER version of Haaland’
Viktor Gyokeres is just like Erling Haaland, except better, clubs chasing the Sporting CP striker have been told.
Gyokeres has been hot transfer property throughout 2024 but especially since the start of the new campaign, when the Sweden international star has gone goal crazy.
Arsenal and Chelsea were both told by Sporting that they would have to pay €100 million to release him from his contract in the summer, while Manchester United are now thought to be following the forward following the news that Ruben Amorim will become their new head coach.
CONFIRMED: Viktor Gyokeres’ perfect transfer move
All this has been fuelled by a stellar Champions League display from the hitman, who netted a hat-trick against Manchester City earlier this week.
"It sounds crazy, but I think he is a slightly better version of Haaland,” former Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart toold Ziggo Sport before Sporting’s Champions League clash with Haaland’s City. “Haaland is incredible, of course, but Gyokeres has a bit more."
This view was echoed by Marco van Basten, one of the greatest strikers the game has seen.
He said of Gyokeres: “He is a true footballer. A real striker. He is strong, scores easily and is calm in front of goal. He can also dribble past the goalkeeper. He is a very good striker."

Patience required for Gyokeres
Amorim has already confirmed that Man Utd have no chance of landing the striker during the January transfer window.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the Sweden star had just completed his hat-trick, he explained: “I be funny with that [Gyokeres] at this moment. It was tough for me to leave. If I joke about that, I have problems.
“Viktor has to stay until the end of the season and then his life is going… maybe… somewhere else.”
While Gyokeres’ €100m release clause remains in place, there is reportedly a gentleman’s agreement in place that will allow him to leave for around €70m next summer – a price that will seem a bargain if he keeps finding the net at his current rate.
