Barcelona offer Chelsea two cracks for Enzo Fernandez
Chelsea are set to be offered a tempting opportunity to offload Enzo Fernandez to Barcelona, with the possibility of receiving two players in return.
Enzo was linked with a potential move away from the Blues earlier this season as he lost his place in Enzo Maresca’s starting XI to Romeo Lavia.
The World Cup winner, however, has hit a rich seam of form and Barca are ready to offer Chelsea two players they bought for a combined total of €140 million to tempt the Stamford Bridge side into making a sale, according to El Nacional.
The Spanish source reports that the Blaugrana are poised to offer Maresca’s side both Frenkie de Jong and Ferran Torres as part of the deal. The Catalans hope to use both as a makeweight in a deal, with Chelsea also likely to receive a lump sum.
Barcelona are seeking to offload De Jong primarily because of the ongoing astronomical cost they face for the Dutchman between wages and deferred payments. An essential player under former boss Xavi, he has struggled to have the same impact under Hansi Flick.
Ferran Torres, meanwhile, has failed to justify his €55m transfer fee from Manchester City and is now very much seen as a second-string option behind the likes of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
Chelsea’s reaction
Chelsea are unlikely to be impressed with this offer, particularly in light of Enzo’s strong form. In his last five Premier League appearances, he has managed three goals and three assists – doubling his tally of strikes in his previous 55 top-flight games and nearly doing the same in terms of decisive passes.
On top of this, Maresca has shown how much he trusts the Argentine by giving him the captain’s armband.
De Jong and Ferran Torres are not players who are liable to be seen as tempting transfer options for the Chelsea boss, who already has a big squad and can be expected to dismiss this possibility out of hand.
