Man Utd January deals

Romano says that Man Utd will leave it to the last minute before deciding their strategy in the January transfer window, with new head coach Ruben Amorim more closely focused on assessing the players he already has at his disposal.

Speaking via his YouTube channel, the football transfer news reporter said: “Ruben Amorim is fully focused on the pitch. He wants to understand what these Manchester United perform. He’s got full focus on the squad. Then closer to Christmas, they’ll have meetings to decide what to do in 2025.”

Romano did reveal one position where Amorim already seems to have made up his mind, however.

“Left-back is a position that they will for sure cover next year – let’s see if it’s January or summer – but Milos Kerkez is a player they like,” he said.

“With Randal Kolo Muani, zero contact at the moment. He could leave PSG but for the moment there’s nothing with Manchester United.”

Alphonso Davies: Transfer update

Man Utd have also been linked with Alphonso Davies, who has been more closely associated with a switch to Real Madrid.

The door remains open for the Canada international to take several different paths, with his contract at Bayern Munich up in June 2025.

“Alphonso Davies doesn’t have any sort of agreement with Real Madrid or any other club so everything is open,” Romano confirmed. “His agent also confirmed how Bayern remain a possibility for him. We know there’s also interest from England. We’ll see what happens there.”

All going according to plan with Endrick

Romano addressed the subject of Endrick at Real Madrid, with the 18-year-old Brazil international having been frustrated by his lack of involvement at the Bernabeu.

He explained that this is all part of the striker’s development.

“Endrick is not playing for Real Madrid. In general, Real Madrid are suffering this season. Endrick isn’t a regular starter, he’s been on the bench and he’s not come on very much in recent weeks,” Romano said.

“All I can say is that Real Madrid believe internally that this was part of the plan. It’s similar to Arder Guler one year ago. He’s only 18, arriving from another country and adapting to something completely different.

“They remain convinced Endrick will have more minutes and is a top talent. They’ve not changed their mind. Real Madrid believe it could be similar for Endrick to Arder Guler.

“Despite the links with Roma and Valladolid, their position remains clear: there’s no intension to loan him.”

Virgil van Dijk contract updated

Liverpool remain in talks with Virgil van Dijk over extending his Anfield deal. At present, the centre-back is destined to become a free agent in June 2025, but Romano has revealed talks are ongoing.

“We know Liverpool made a proposal to Virgil van Dijk,” he said.

“There’s been no substantial movement. He’s not signing anything today or tomorrow so there’s nothing imminent. The negotiations continue and the proposal is there.

“Liverpool want Van Dijk to remain as part of their project but there’s no agreement yet. It doesn’t mean it won’t happen because Liverpool are pushing and believe he remains one of the best centre-backs in the world.

“Discussions are ongoing with Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah.”

Confirmed: Jonathan David is leaving Lille

Canada striker Jonathan David will depart Ligue 1 side Lille for nothing next summer, with the centre-forward set to be a target for some leading clubs around Europe. Exactly where he could end up is less clear, however.

“Jonathan David will leave Lille as a free agent,” he said. “The Lille president revealed that they’ve made a proposal to him, but the information I have is that the expectation for Jonathan David is that he will say goodbye at the end of the season. There’s interest from England and especially from Italy.

“We saw what he said about Barcelona, that they were his favourite club as a kid. But I’m not aware of concrete negotiations there. Barca remain fully focused on Robert Lewandowski and his contract will be extended for one more season until 2026.”
