Williams was expected to leave Athletic Club during the summer transfer window, but he opted to extend his stay at the club for a further year in favour of departing in 2025.

Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea were all determined to land the Spain international this summer, following his immense performances at Euro 2024, however they were unable to convince the 22-year-old to leave San Mames.

As a result, Williams is set to be the subject of an intense transfer pursuit next summer, with Man Utd and PSG both eager to sign him, according to El Nacional.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho could both leave Man Utd in 2025 and Ruben Amorim is determined to sign attacking reinforcements as he looks to shape his squad into a team capable of fighting for major honours once again.

Meanwhile, PSG are also reportedly interested in landing Williams, despite the fact Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue both operate in the Spaniard’s preferred position on the left flank.

Lamine Yamal dream ruined

Arsenal and Chelsea are likely to rekindle their interest in Williams next summer, but El Nacional claim that Man Utd and PSG are the main protagonists in the race to sign him as things stand.

Furthermore, the Spanish outlet report that Barcelona are set to end their pursuit of the 22-year-old as Hansi Flick believes he would be an unnecessary addition at Camp Nou.

As a result, Man Utd could ruin Lamine Yamal’s dream of playing alongside Williams at club level.

The pair starred on opposite flanks at Euro 2024 and Yamal has repeatedly stated that he would love Williams to join him at Barcelona. However, that currently seems extremely unlikely, and Williams could end up joining Man Utd instead.
