Manchester United’s hopes of landing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have suffered a major setback, with Ruben Amorim’s side suffering what can only be described as a nightmare blow in the race for the Napoli star.

It was revealed last month that Man Utd were ready to launch a bid for Kvaratskhelia, with the Red Devils poised to offer the Georgia winger a wage of €9 million in a ploy to get him to refuse any new contract offer from Napoli. His current deal ends in 2027.

The Red Devils planned to face competition from PSG for the attacker, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €72.3 million, but new interest has emerged that is not so welcome.

According to TBR Football, Kvaratskhelia is also being targeted by Liverpool and Manchester City, with both said to be “in the race” for the 23-year-old winger.

Despite Kvaratskhelia preferring to play on the right than the left, Liverpool see him as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah should the Egypt international depart in the summer, which looks increasingly likely after he claimed that no new contract offer has been forthcoming from the Reds.

On top of this, Man City have also asked the player’s representatives to keep them informed of developments relating to the attacker.

Napoli want €100 million to sell Kvaratskhelia and showed in the summer with the Victor Osimhen saga that they will not be pressured into selling below their expectations.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia: Napoli contract talks stall

Kvaratskhelia’s contract talks with Napoli have not gone smoothly, with the winger believing that he has not been offered a contract that reflects his value to the team.

The Serie A leaders have been prepared to offer him €6m per year, which falls some €2m short of Man Utd’s proposed offer – with the deal from the Premier League side also containing €1m easy-to-achieve bonus payments.

Another sticking point with Kvaratskhelia and Napoli has been the insertion of a release clause. The player wants the ability to leave the club from 2026 should an offer of around €120m be tabled.

Man Utd will be encouraged that this is not to Napoli star’s liking and should offer further incentive for him to leave.

The news that Kvaratskhelia is also coveted by two Premier League rivals – Man Utd’s most bitter foes, no less – in the form of Liverpool and Man City is not, however, a welcome development at all, given the recent history of domination the pair have had in England, not to mention the financial strength of Pep Guardiola’s side.
