Nuno Mendes is stalling on his new Paris Saint-Germain contract as Manchester United remain keen on the left-back, according to a report.

The Portugal international has become one of the most in-demand full-backs in Europe at PSG. Mendes enjoyed a brilliant 2022/23 campaign and really put his name on the map.

After an injury-hit 2023/24 season, he is now fully fit again and slowly but surely getting back to his previous form. Due to his importance, PSG have been in talks over extending his deal, which currently expires in 2026.

However, foreign clubs have also been keeping tabs on his performances in recent years and Florian Plettenberg now reports that Mendes is stalling on signing fresh terms with the Parisians.

This, he claims, is due to the fact that the 22-year-old is aware that he has big-name suitors around Europe.

Man Utd keen on Mendes

The left-back position has been giving Man Utd headaches for a year now and, as such, the Red Devils are scrambling to add players for the left side of their backline.

They are close to wrapping up a deal for 17-year-old Diego Leon, but he is one for the future and unlikely to be of any immediate help when he joins in the summer.

That is why Man Utd are also looking at more senior options and Plettenberg reports that Mendes is one of the top names the club are considering.

Mendes has the same agency as his former Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, so there is a certain connection already in place that could facilitate a move while the Premier League side's relationship with the French champions could also help.

Man Utd did business with PSG in the summer when they signed Manuel Ugarte and they are also thought to be the club best positioned to land Randal Kolo Muani in January.
