Manchester United could make a shock swoop for a legend from one of their Premier League rivals whom they believe to be a ‘viable’ target in the near future.

United are seeking ways to transform their team as they begin a new era under Ruben Amorim and the club have largely focused on younger targets since the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe earlier this year.

However, there is still a desire to sign proven and more experienced players if they become available, having seen veterans such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo provide value well into their thirties.

United’s approach could lead them towards a stunning move for Son Heung-min, who is out of contract at Tottenham at the end of the season.

The Spurs captain has yet to resolve his future with the club and GIVEMESPORT have claimed that ‘there is plenty of chat around Old Trafford’ over the prospect of signing Son if he were to leave Tottenham on a free transfer.

A move could prove complicated with Tottenham preparing to activate a one-year option in Son’s contract but the 32-year-old is still holding out for a long-term extension and his frustration could pave the way for United to make an approach.

What does the future hold for Son Heung-min?

Son joined Tottenham in 2015 and has since gone onto become the club’s fifth-highest goalscorer of all-time, netting 166 goals in more than 400 games across all competitions.

United are acutely aware of the impact of bringing in a global superstar like Son while also weakening a divisional rival in the process, having done so in the past with stars such as Robin van Persie and Dimitar Berbatov.

Son’s goal record, combined with his leadership, experience and versatility, would undoubtedly prove to be an asset in Amorim’s young squad despite having perhaps shown signs of a decline in recent times.

The South Korean superstar has only scored three league goals this season and Tottenham are believed to be reluctant to offer him a longer contract for the time being.

United would seemingly only pursue a deal for Son if he was available on a free transfer but Spurs may be open to a sale if their captain demands an exit, however a move to a rival in the Red Devils is not something Tottenham are likely to entertain.
