West Ham United are ready to make their first definitive signing of the January transfer window, with Carlos Soler’s loan from PSG poised to be made permanent.

Soler is one of a number of players that the Parisian club are seeking to offload. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed their intention to sell both Randal Kolo Muani and Milan Skriniar, with the striker and centre-back also the type of player that might enhance Julen Lopetegui’s Hammers.

West Ham, though, are working to secure the full-time signing of Soler, who has featured 14 times for the Premier League side since hooking up with them in late August. He has one assist and has been booked on five occasions.

The Spain international now appears settled in London after a tricky start and West Ham are seriously considering taking up the €20 million option in his loan deal. There could be some room for negotiation with the price, with PSG simply happy to recoup the €17m they spent on the player in 2022 as they signed him from Valencia.

Le Parisien reports that “discussions to this effect have started in recent days”. It adds that West Ham have been delighted with the application of the player, who has recently earned a starting place alongside Lucas Paqueta.

PSG have discarded him, meanwhile, with head coach Luis Enrique no longer counting on the 27-year-old star.

Soler wants West Ham stay

Soler seems to have turned the page and is delighted with his new surroundings.

“Living in a city like London is great. I'm very happy here. I'm coming here on loan, and to take advantage of this opportunity. I can't say anything more,” Soler told AS recently.

After starting five successive Premier League games for West Ham before a suspension against Brighton broke the run, it’s easy to see why Soler is enjoying his football again.
