Alphonso Davies stops Bayern superstar joining Arsenal
Alphonso Davies’ decision to extend his contract at Bayern Munich is not just bad news for Manchester United and Real Madrid - who wanted to sign the left back this summer - but also Arsenal.
After over a year of negotiations, Davies finally ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract at Bayern until 2030.
In the process, Davies ended the chance of United and Madrid of signing the Canada star on a free transfer when his contract was due to expire this summer.

But it is news that also has a knock-on effect on Arsenal, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Mirror reports that Davies’ Bayern teammate Jamal Musiala is a top target for Arsenal as early as this summer.
Musiala’s contract at Bayern expires in 2026 and there have been similar fears he could leave the club as there have been with Davies.

But the contract extension for Davies makes it much more likely now that Musiala will also pen a new deal.
Davies and Musiala are known to be extremely close to one another, and the Germany attacking midfielder wants to continue his career alongside his good friend.
What did Davies and Musiala say?
“Phonzy and Leroy [Sane] are both my closest friends,” Musiala said last month.
“They are great players and are very important to us. Let's see what happens. But I would be happy to play with them for the next few years.”
These feelings are reciprocated by Davies, who said himself last month.
“Maybe when it comes to music taste we’re on the same wavelength,” Davies said. “Just being able to relate to each other on a different level is very special.
“I mean, he’s still young. He’s still learning. Obviously I look at him like a little brother and I think he looks at me as a big brother. We just have a dynamic that’s really good.”
Arsenal are set for a big summer of spending after keeping their powder dry in January but it seems that Musiala is now an unlikely target.
