Arsenal 'serious' about signing €55m INJURED superstar
Arsenal are 'serious' about signing Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui, according to Italian media.
The Gunners' search for a new No.9 has been ongoing for some time. In the summer, Arsenal were determined to add Benjamin Sesko to their ranks only to be taken by surprise when he decided to extend his RB Leipzig contract.
Ultimately, they decided against bringing anyone in just for the sake of making up the numbers but the desire to add a centre-forward remains despite the resurgent form of Gabriel Jesus.

A host of players have been linked with a move to north London. Viktor Gyokeres has been associated with Arsenal for over a year, while Sesko is still considered a priority target.
Evan Ferguson could become an option should Brighton decide to make him available, while Alexander Isak is something of an almost unattainable dream target.
Arsenal want Retegui
In late 2024, a new name began being linked with Arsenal as Atalanta's Mateo Retegui was said to have appeared on their radar. The Italy international has been on fire this season, scoring 14 goals across all competitions so far.
La Repubblica now claims that Arsenal are 'serious' about Retegui and would be willing to shell out as much as €55 million to land him this month.
There are, however, several problems with this assertion. For one, Atalanta are in the midst of a Serie A title challenge and don't want to lose any key players mid-season.

Additionally, there is the issue that Retegui is simply not available right now. He suffered a hamstring problem in December and has yet to return to action, with the player expected to still be out for a few more days or perhaps even weeks.
Arsenal would only be willing to spend big if an opportunity presented itself this month - like if Nico Williams indicated a willingness to move - but Retegui does not appear to be one such opportunity.
