Arsenal have been sent on a January transfer quest to find cover for Bukayo Saka following an injury to the England international winger.

Saka is set to miss at least a couple of months of action because of a thigh injury, which leaves the Gunners looking thin offensively.

Although they were able to overcome Brentford 3-1 away from home, they were unable to have the same impact against Brighton as Mikel Arteta’s side were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at the AmEx Stadium.

While the Gunners can be heartened that Ethan Nwaneri got the goal, there is an appreciation that the talented 17-year-old is not someone who should be relied upon at this early stage of his exciting career.

Arsenal are looking at alternatives and have been eyeing a move for West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, according to Football Insider.

The Ghana international striker has been linked with all of the Premier League’s biggest sides in recent months, with FootballTransfers previously revealing exclusively that he preferred Arsenal to Chelsea last summer in part because they would offer Champions League football.

A deal did not materialise because of West Ham’s insistence that their €120 million (€100m) valuation of the player be met. The Hammers are still maintaining this stance, which suggests that any January move is unlikely.

Arsenal have previously paid their neighbours nine figures to sign Declan Rice in their most expensive transfer ever.

Arsenal prioritise Nico Williams

Arsenal’s main goal is to sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, with FootballTransfers revealing that the Gunners are ready to trigger the €58m release clause of the Spain international winger.

Arteta’s side will only move for the player if he indicates that he is open to a move at this juncture of the season. Previously, Nico has suggested he will remain in Bilbao until the summer.

Another option for Arsenal is AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, but his price tag around the €70-80m mark is thought to be too great for them at this point in the season, suggesting that they will not consider the price West Ham are quoting them for Kudus.
