Nico Williams blow

Arsenal’s pursuit of Athletic Club winger Nico Williams has been complicated by his huge wage demands.

FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal are willing to trigger his release clause this month, but his salary requirements are proving to be a stumbling block.

The 22-year-old is demanding a weekly salary in excess of £300,000, according to The Mirror, and this could prove problematic for the Gunners.

Williams is seemingly unwilling to accept a pay cut to leave Athletic Club and Arsenal may therefore be required to identify alternative targets if they aren’t able to match his wage demands.

Ronald Araujo wanted?

Arsenal are reportedly eager to rival Juventus in the race to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

The Uruguay international has emerged as a shock contender to join Juve this month, amid a defensive injury crisis in Turin, and the Serie A giants are keen to sign him on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Further talks have been scheduled to take place over the next few days as Juventus look to finalise Araujo’s arrival, but Arsenal want to hijack their bid to sign him, as per Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet claim that Mikel Arteta’s side are willing to bid “strongly” for the Barcelona star in an effort to bolster their defensive options.

William Saliba has been linked with a move to Real Madrid over the past year, and signing Araujo, who has a €1 billion release clause, could ease the blow of losing the France international.

Sverre Nypan wanted

Arsenal are set to rival Manchester United in the race to sign Rosenborg youngster Sverre Nypan, as per The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The talented teenager has been on Man Utd’s radar for several months and reports suggest that he is one of the club’s primary transfer targets for 2025 as they look to bolster their midfield roster.

However, Ornstein has confirmed that Arsenal are also monitoring his development in Norway.

He told The Athletic FC Podcast: “I speak to people across the game that, I don’t know if I get this pronunciation right, but (Sverre) Nypan, who is playing for Rosenberg, he’s coming through central midfielder, very highly thought of, and Arsenal really like him, but I’m sure others do as well.

“I don’t know of any movement to the developing transfer, but it just goes to show that you could see Arsenal bringing some young players now that start to bed in for the future.”

Inter Milan want Oleksandr Zinchenko

Inter Milan are preparing a January bid for Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to The Sun.

The Ukraine international has only started two Premier League games so far this season and Arteta is reportedly open to letting him leave before the winter window slams shut.

Riccardo Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Jurrien Timber and Jakub Kiwior are all capable of playing at left-back, meaning Zinchenko has become almost surplus to requirements over the past few months.
