Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr have launched a shock transfer bid for Brighton and Hove Albion's wing wizard.

The Athletic's football correspondent David Ornstein has exclusively revealed on X that Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, the team that Cristiano Ronaldo plays for, have attempted to raid Brighton.

Ornstein reports that Brighton's Japanese international (with 26 caps to his name) Kaoru Mitoma has been the subject of a shocking bid worth €65 million.

With just two days left of the January transfer window, Al-Nassr are making a late bid to strengthen in wide areas but having left it so late, their bid was understandably rejected by Brighton, though it seems likely that Al-Nassr will just try again with a larger bid.

The 27 year-old is Brighton's leading light in attack with his superb dribbling and creative skills, so it makes sense that Al-Nassr would recruit him but equally that Brighton would fight to keep him.

There is nothing to gain for Brighton by selling Mitoma so late in the window here as they would not have time to sign a replacement.

Al-Nassr of course want someone as creative as Mitoma to help supply and do the running for Cristiano Ronaldo, who remains the club's top scorer.

Duran and Mitoma; replacing Ronaldo?

What's more, Al-Nassr have struck a staggering €77 million deal for another Premier League star, this one being for Aston Villa's striker Jhon Duran.

A powerful centre-forward, Duran is expected to join the Saudi outfit just in time, and it seems like Al-Nassr wanted Mitoma to join him.

Whether Al-Nassr's attempts to sign Mitoma in addition to Duran mean that they are maybe comfortable with the idea of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract expires at the end of June, walking away from the club for free or not remains to be seen.

But what's clear is that Al-Nassr are trying to end the January transfer window with some big, bold moves and it remains to be seen if they can pay off.
