Enzo Maresca has insisted that Chelsea don’t need to sign a “killer” centre forward, despite Nicolas Jackson’s recent woes in front of goal.

The Blues are winless in their last five Premier League matches and they have slipped down to fifth place in the English top flight table, having picked up just three points from the last 15 available.

Jackson has failed to score since Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Brentford on 15 December and although the Senegal international has registered nine goals in 20 league matches so far this campaign, he has been heavily criticised over the past few weeks.

In fact, several Chelsea fans have urged their club to sign a more prolific number nine in 2025, with Victor Osimhen touted as a potential option for the west London giants.

However, Maresca believes that Jackson is good enough to lead the line for the Blues and has seemingly ruled out a mid-season move for a new centre forward.

What has Enzo Maresca said?

Ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, Maresca was asked whether the club will look to bring a new striker to Stamford Bridge before the January transfer window closes.

“No, because I think by being a little bit more lucky, we can convert and can score more goals,” Maresca told reporters.

“It’s not about [signing] a ‘killer’. In this moment, the one that’s probably missing the goal is Nico. But the way he is working is fantastic, and we don’t have any doubt that Nico is soon going to start scoring goals.”

Jackson has started 19 of Chelsea’s 21 Premier League fixtures since the start of the 2024-25 season, with Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu unable to displace the 23-year-old in Maresca’s preferred starting XI.
