Chelsea are interested in signing Lyon wonderkid Enzo Molebe, according to reports in France.

Molebe still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at Lyon, but a January exit hasn’t been ruled out and Chelsea are eyeing an opportunistic move before Deadline Day.

The 17-year-old is the “subject of concrete interest” from Enzo Maresca’s side, according to Le Parisien, as the west London giants continue their search for the best young talents in world football.

Chelsea have almost exclusively signed players aged 25 or under since the arrival of Clearlake Capital as the club’s new owners in 2022, and Molebe could become the latest wonderkid to secure a Stamford Bridge switch.

The teenager has only amassed nine minutes of first-team action so far this season, via two substitute appearances, and Chelsea are looking to capitalise on his limited role at Lyon this month, as per Le Parisien.

Molebe is yet to make his Ligue 1 debut, but Chelsea are monitoring his situation at Lyon ahead of a possible late January bid.

Chelsea’s January transfer plans

In addition to Molebe, Chelsea are also in talks over several other January transfers as they look to bolster Maresca’s first-team squad.

The Blues are in negotiations to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, while Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel is also under consideration by the club’s hierarchy.

When asked whether Chelsea would sign reinforcements before Deadline Day, Maresca recently told reporters: “We are always looking at situations with the sporting director, we will see if anything happens.”

Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell have all been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge before the January transfer window ends, amid their lack of involvement so far this campaign.
