Chelsea have reportedly turned down a January bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers for summer signing Renato Veiga.

The 21-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge from FC Basel for €14 million in July, but he has only made one Premier League start so far this season and his situation is being monitored by a number of clubs.

Stuttgart, Napoli, Juventus, Bournemouth and Wolves have all registered their interest in Veiga since the beginning of January, and the latter have now seen an official bid rejected by Chelsea, according to Ben Jacobs.

Furthermore, a mid-season move to Molineux is reportedly no longer on the cards following Chelsea’s decision to turn down Wolves’ initial approach.

Veiga has been an unused substitute in 12 Premier League games so far this campaign, with his last appearance in the competition coming against Tottenham Hotspur on 8 December.

But, the Portugal international is expected to play a key role in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League and FA Cup campaigns, and the club are eager to retain his services this month.

Chelsea’s January transfer plans

Ben Chilwell, on the other hand, will be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge after falling behind Veiga and Marc Cucurella in the pecking order.

FootballTransfers understands that Graham Potter is keen to make Chilwell his first signing at West Ham United, while the ex-England international has also been linked to Manchester United over the past few months.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei are also expected to leave Chelsea during the January transfer window amid their struggles for game time under Enzo Maresca.

Christopher Nkunku and Axel Disasi have been linked with the exit door too, while Chelsea are eager to sign a new centre-back before the January transfer window shuts.

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is currently their preferred target, although recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Selhurst Park is also an option.
