Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Manchester United may attempt to hijack Arsenal’s attempt to land Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha, describing him as “one to watch” in the January transfer window.

Cunha has failed to sign a new contract with the Molineux club and has become a serious transfer target for Arsenal this January.

FootballTransfers has exclusively revealed that the Brazilian has agreed personal terms with the Emirates club but there remains to be significant work to do in terms of bridging a gap in valuations between Wolves and Mikel Arteta’s side.

This could open the door to an assault from Man Utd, who are also in the market for strikers due to the ongoing poor form of their attack.

With Napoli threatening to derail the Red Devils’ deal for Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu, the Old Trafford club could instead turn their attentions more seriously towards Cunha, who The Athletic revealed is being watched by the Old Trafford side.

Romano says the former Atletico Madrid star is worth keeping an eye on.

“Cunha’s situation from now to end of January remains one to watch,” he tweeted. “New deal not formally signed yet as reported two days ago, clubs showing interest with Arsenal still keen and not only…”

The Daily Mail reports that Cunha is on Man Utd’s shortlist to join in attack should they offload an attacker this month. He is joined on that list by Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Ipswich’s Liam Delap and Lille attacker Jonathan David, who will be a free agent in the summer.

Alejandro Garnacho transfer latest

Romano has also dropped an update on the future of Alejandro Garnacho.

While reports in Italy indicate that the Argentine is growing increasingly close to a move to Napoli, Chelsea continue to menace.

“Napoli’s opening bid for Alejandro Garnacho worth €50m package add-ons included; Man United want more,” he claims.

“Antonio Conte keeps pushing after the call with Garnacho on Friday.

“Chelsea made contact with United and player side, now deciding internally whether to bid or not.”
