Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed the latest headlines from the market, with Manchester United and Chelsea working hard on deals, while Liverpool are seeking to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Man Utd still pushing for Dorgu

Manchester United have not been put off by having two bids for Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu knocked back. The Red Devils continue to target the Denmark international – but they do have one alternative lined up.

“The main focus they have in this January transfer window is left wing-back. They need cover in that position,” Romano told his YouTube channel. “Antony’s gone to Real Betis, Tyrell Malacia has had physical problems, Luke Shaw the same.

“After two bids rejected by Lecce in recent days, Man Utd are keeping the contacts open regarding Patrick Dorgu. He remains the strong option.

“The other option is Alvaro Carreras, the former Man Utd player. They have a buy-back clause of something around €18 million. They are aware of that opportunity.

“But my understanding is that Man Utd are still working on Dorgu. They have an agreement with the player, now it depends on the clubs. Lecce are insisting on €40m, but Man Utd are trying to use add ons as part of the structure of the deal.”

Nkunku and Garnacho to swap?

Another major Man Utd transfer story to follow is that of Christopher Nkunku and Alejandro Garnacho. The Red Devils are linked with Chelsea winger Nkunku and could send Garnacho in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

Romano explained the position of the transfer as things stand.

“We’ve had busy weeks on Nkunku. Between Man Utd and Chelsea, there is nothing concrete. It was something proposed by intermediaries in December before the official start of the January transfer window,” Romano said. “I’m not sure that Nkunku and Garnacho are prepared to go on loan, so in that case it would have to be a permanent transfer. This would make it expensive and difficult on the valuation point of view, so I’m not aware of anything concrete.”

He pointed out that there could be another option for Chelsea, with the France international heading to Bayern Munich.

“Nkunku would have no problem joining Bayern. At the moment, he’s not requested to leave. So it depends what Chelsea want to do,” Romano added.

“For Bayern, the only way they can make it work is if they sell Mathys Tel. If he decides to try a different challenge, this deal could go through. Tel is a target for Chelsea and is appreciated by them.

“The situation is changing. In the last three games, Tel has played zero minutes. This week, he’s going to try to understand what’s happening.

“For Garnacho, we’re still waiting for an official proposal. We know about Napoli’s interest but the only way they can proceed is if Man Utd change their request for the player. They’re not going to pay €70 million. Napoli have already said they won’t overpay.”

Liverpool shutdown Trent transfer talk

Real Madrid have pushed to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold this month, but the right-back, who is out of contract in the summer, is not up for sale. Indeed, Romano says Liverpool will push to re-sign him until the last.

“The expectation is that nothing will happen with Trent Alexander-Arnold,” Romano said. “Real Madrid tried to approach Liverpool at the beginning of the window but they understood immediately that they did not want to negotiate around €25-30m.

“Liverpool want to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold and try to extend his contract. They’ll try and try and try. But he’s Real Madrid’s top target for the summer transfer window. They’re absolutely convinced they can bring Trent to the club on a free transfer but Liverpool want to try until the end.”

Huijsen a top target for Chelsea and many others

Romano continued to build the hype surrounding Dean Huijsen, stating that there are numerous top clubs following the centre-back.

“Huijsen has been fantastic at Bournemouth,” he pointed out. “What I can reveal to you today is that there is a release clause in the contract of the player in the summer.

“Many of the top clubs around Europe are aware of the situation. He was a target for PSG last summer then he joined Bournemouth in a different kind of move.

“Chelsea really like the player. Chelsea see Dean Huijsen as a top talent. For sure, he’s on their shortlist for the summer. In January, it will be very difficult to make Bournemouth sell their crucial players.

“In recent days, Bayern called to understand the situation, but Chelsea are already considering him.”
