Liverpool have been sent a stark warning regarding Mohamed Salah’s future, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal poised to receive a windfall of funds worth around €65 million.

Salah has been persistently linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as his contract at Anfield winds down, with reports in the kingdom reporting that an agreement is “99% agreed”.

The Egypt international has continually refused to commit his future to Liverpool, fuelling speculation that he will leave as a free agent in the summer.

Now Liverpool have been warned about the potential impact that Neymar’s imminent departure from Al-Hilal could have on their prospects of retaining Salah.

The Brazil star is set to leave the Saudi Pro League side six months early to return to Santos, potentially giving the club €65m of his wages to spend elsewhere. Naturally, this could be earmarked for Salah.

“Keep an eye on Al-Hilal if Neymar departs. Big push expected to bring a marquee signing ahead of the Club World Cup. Neymar exit frees up further budget,” transfer expert Ben Jacobs has reports.

“SPL expected to take FIFA up on the 'exceptional window' between 1-10 June. Hilal's dream remains Mo Salah joins and plays at the FIFA Club World Cup.”

Transfer to move fast

Neymar’s deal is expected to be concluded rapidly with Santos, which in turn could see a quick change in Salah’s situation at Liverpool.

“Initial approach centred on a loan but it's also now possible Neymar terminates his Al-Hilal deal in order to sign a six-month contract with Santos which includes a one-year option. Neymar could fly to Brazil this week if all goes to plan. He'll meet with Al-Hilal on Monday to discuss final details,” Jacobs reports.

“Neymar is expected to maintain a relationship with Saudi Arabia even if he leaves and be named a 2034 World Cup ambassador.”

Salah, meanwhile, is expected to lead Liverpool into their final Champions League match of the group stage against PSV, with the Reds needing only a point to secure top spot.
