The future of Liverpool superstar Mo Salah is THE biggest story of this January window, and we have another key piece in the jigsaw.

It seems unthinkable but the Egyptian superstar, who continues to break just about every record in the English Premier League, will be out of contract in a few short months and is now free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with other clubs.

It is pretty clear that Salah, now 32, wants to stay on Merseyside with his family settled and from a football standpoint the player still operating at truly elite level.

But for whatever reason the club's owners FSG (Fenway Sports Group) - also of course owners of the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Penguins - have yet to agree a new pact with Salah.

Salah turns up the heat on FSG and Liverpool

Ahead of Sunday's huge showdown vs Manchester United at Anfield, Salah again dropped in an interview that this would be his 'last year' at the club. It's far from the first time he's done that, either.

The most likely destination for Salah, should he leave Anfield this summer, is the moneybags Saudi Pro League, home of course to a number of 30something superstars - notably one Cristiano Ronaldo.

And now the big shots in the Middle East are again sending a message to Mo that he would be welcomed there with open arms.

The league has tried to sign him in the past, of course, supposedly offering Liverpool a record amount to get a deal done in 2023. And now League CEO Omar Mugharbel has gone on record again.

Saudi Pro League WANT Salah

"Our interest in Mohamed Salah is not a secret," said Mugharbel, per So3ody. in addition to his contract expiring with Liverpool.”

Now why Mugharbel is suddenly talking about Salah isn't clear. Multiple Saudi outlets report these quotes but just put them down to a 'statement released' via the league.

So what prompted them is anyone's guess. All we can say for sure is that the Saudis are quite blatantly turning up the heat on the Salah situation here.

They want to sign him, desperately, and that's been known for years. Salah is, after all, the face of Arabic football and one of the world's greatest players.

He's also publicly admitted in the past that he'd play there. If this is their chance to sign Salah, the Saudi Pro League is sure to make the most of it.

The ball is absolutely in Liverpool's - and FSG's - court. And so it begins.
