Manchester United have been urged to sack Ruben Amorim and appoint Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville as his replacement.

The Red Devils have endured a torrid 2024-25 campaign and the arrival of Amorim in November, as Erik ten Hag’s successor, has failed to make an immediate impact.

Man Utd are currently 13th in the Premier League table and they have lost seven of Amorim’s 16 games in charge.

The former Sporting CP boss recently dubbed his team “the worst in Man Utd’s history” and he is under increasing pressure to arrest the club’s current slide and ensure a respectable finishing position by the end of the campaign.

However, legendary former Match of the Day presenter Des Lynam has urged Man Utd to sack Amorim and hire Neville to take over.

The Red Devils legend has spent the past nine years as a pundit for Sky Sports and his only experience in management was a disastrous four-month spell at Valencia back in 2015-2016.

Despite this, Lynam believes Man Utd should turn to Neville amid their current woes.

“Neville would still be the best man for the job,” Lynam wrote in The Telegraph. “He has Manchester United blood running through his veins. He is deeply hurt by the club’s present predicament.

“He has a powerful personality and would be a strong presence in the dressing room. Oh and the money men had better watch out, Neville is an astute businessman.

“My plea to him was over three years ago but as the men with their furrowed brows took their temporary residence in the United dugout, Neville has remained the best candidate, in my mind.

“It is close to impossible to run the team and the club but if there was anyone who could give it a good go, I think he would have the courage and knowledge to face up to the challenge.”

Gary Neville at Valencia

Neville was offered the Valencia head coach job by close friend Peter Lim, but he lasted just 28 games in charge before being sacked in March 2016.

Valencia registered 10 wins, seven draws and 11 defeats during Neville’s time in the dugout, while they failed to keep a single clean sheet.
