Man Utd in INSANE transfer links to €80m Liverpool star

Manchester United could make a stunning approach to Liverpool, with reports in Spain claiming that the Red Devils could be set for an incredible raid on their rivals for an €80 million star.

United are keen to strengthen their squad this window in order to back Ruben Amorim as he looks to rebuild his new side and fully execute his tactical system.

However, United’s outlay of more than €200m in the summer has left the club needing to sell before they can buy, with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony among the candidates the club are desperate to cash in on.

While Amorim is eager to bring in a wing-back and a midfielder, United’s struggle for consistency in attack has also left the club seeking another forward, particularly if Rashford, Antony or the misfiring Joshua Zirkzee leave this month.

Such a departure could see United make a shock move for Darwin Nunez, with Spanish outlet Fichajes alleging that Amorim’s side are emerging as the ‘main candidates’ to sign the Uruguayan.

The report states that United see Nunez as a way to strengthen their attack while also emphasising their ambition by taking a player from their bitter rivals.

Could Nunez move to Man Utd?

Liverpool would perhaps welcome an exit for Nunez after his struggles since his €85 million transfer from Benfica in 2022, although Arne Slot’s side are understood to have already rejected an approach from Saudi Arabia for the striker this month.

Nunez has so far proven unconvincing in Slot’s debut season, scoring just twice in 15 league appearances and seeing Luis Diaz preferred up front to him.

A move to United appears unrealistic as it stands and Amorim would certainly prefer a more consistent source of goals, with plenty of talent at Old Trafford otherwise.

However, United were keen on a move for Nunez prior to him joining Liverpool and, having witnessed his exploits for Benfica, Amorim may feel he can get the best out of the 25-year-old if a cut-price deal can be found, although the sale of a player such as Rashford would first need to be agreed.
