Romano confirms €11m deal that will end Antony’s Man Utd nightmare
Antony’s departure from Manchester United is close at hand, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that a deal that will pave the way for the Brazil international to leave Old Trafford is close.
The 24-year-old has long looked a misfit with the Red Devils, despite making a €95 million switch from Ajax in the summer of 2022.
Antony’s fortunes have not improved under new head coach Ruben Amorim, and it appears that Man Utd are ready to take the first opportunity to dump a player who has constantly disappointed in the Premier League.
Now winger has his bags packed, with a deal looking very likely soon – in part thanks to Arsenal legend Cesc Fabregas, who is facilitating the move.
Antony is not heading to Como to hook up with the Gunners hero, but instead to Real Betis. The LaLiga club, though, first need to offload Assane Diao before the former Ajax player is signed.
Romano says that part of the deal is close.
“Como are closing in on deal to sign Assane Diao from Real Betis!” the football transfer news expert confirmed on X.
“Clubs are finalising details for package worth over €11m. Como manager Cesc Fabregas has been crucial as he spoke to the player and the move is now being completed.”
Antony to leave: Who else will Man Utd sell in January?
Antony is expected to leave Man Utd to sign for Betis once that deal is done. He will only join the Seville side on a loan basis, but in positive news for the Red Devils, the Spaniards are expected to subsidise a significant portion of the player’s €240,000 (£200,000) per week salary.
United also aim to offload Marcus Rashford during January as Amorim’s overhaul gathers pace, though it is unclear where the England winger might move.
He has admitted that he is open to a new challenge, and having been frozen out of several squads by Amorim, even Antony’s sale is unlikely to open a route back into favour.
Victor Lindelof, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are all players Man Utd are seeking to move on with immediate effect.
