Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has been accused of trying to get himself sacked from the Old Trafford club after just a matter of weeks in the job.

Amorim took charge of the Red Devils following the November international break but has struggled to turn the crisis at United around.

There was some respite for the former Sporting CP boss on Sunday as his side turned in an improved display to draw 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield, but prior to that his men had lost four successive matches.

With United tipped for a relegation battle ahead of next week’s FA Cup clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, it has been sensationally claimed that Amorim is already trying to get himself fired.

Speaking on beIN Sports, veteran presenter Richard Keys said: “He doesn’t have to say he’s wrong about his tactics.

“What he has to say is: ‘I believe in the system, I believe this is the future for Man Utd, but right now, with the personnel I have, I’m not getting the success or result required to give us the breathing space we need.

“What he’s actually said is that his players are scared. They are scared because they can’t work the system.

“Let’s say, he should say: ‘Let’s put the handbrake on for the next five or six games because I’m a good coach. I have got Plan B.’

“My conclusion at that point is that he’s actually trying to get the sack.”

Amorim compared to Potter

United’s performance at Liverpool can be used as tangible evidence against such a remarkable argument, with the Red Devils vibrant and hungry throughout that encounter, which they even led through Lisandro Martinez before Amad Diallo secured them a late point.

“Graham Potter did exactly that at Chelsea,” Keys said, doubling down on his argument against Amorim. “He was gone in no time.

“I remember when Manchester United got relegated. I watched it. And there are similarities with this season, let me tell you!”

Amorim’s side are currently on 23 points from 20 games, seven points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
