Victor Osimhen is Manchester United's 'dream' target but signing him will prove incredibly difficult, according to a report.

The Red Devils are in need of attacking reinforcements and have been scouting the striker market since the days of Erik ten Hag, who was very open about his desire to add a reliable No.9.

Man Utd signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna in the summer, but he has never been a particularly prolific striker and has so far struggled to make his mark at Old Trafford.

With Ruben Amorim now at the helm, the plan to add a centre-forward remains the same, especially if Marcus Rashford, though primarily a winger, leaves the club this month.

Victor Osimhen is one of the names who has been heavily linked with Man Utd in recent weeks. Now, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that the interest from the Red Devils is genuine.

Man Utd want Osimhen

Speaking to The United Stand, the journalist confirmed that Osimhen is Man Utd's 'dream' target but also made it clear that a move, especially in January, is incredibly unlikely.

"Victor Osimhen is a Man Utd dream target," he said. "But financially, it's very difficult even with that release clause dropping to €75 million. Nothing is possible in January and Osimhen, even though that might sound strange, has not changed his mind.

"He still wants his next move to be permanent. So the whole 'nearly joined Chelsea, nearly joined Saudi, didn't get either, went temporarily to Turkey' hasn't made the player think 'maybe I ought to contemplate a loan with an option.'

"Osimhen has said, 'if you want me, you sign me permanently' whether at that €75m release clause or a different kind of package like a loan with an obligation. Add to that €250,000 a week and Man Utd may find that difficult.

"It reminds me a bit of when they wanted [Harry] Kane idealistically, but practically and financially it wasn't possible because they were not given the same kind of finances or deal by Daniel Levy as Bayern Munich were.

"But they may explore that [Osimhen deal] over the summer. A lot will depend on what kind of package Napoli are prepared to give and whether Osimhen changes his mind about for example joining Man Utd on a loan with an option."
