Paul Pogba has slammed Manchester United for their treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo, branding the ex-Red Devil as the best striker in history.

Ronaldo was released from Man Utd midway through the 2022/23 season after a very public spat with the club.

Things have gone from bad to worse since Ronaldo’s departure, with United enduring their worst season in Premier League history this term.

And Pogba has hit out at the club for the way they treated Ronaldo, who enjoyed a legendary first spell at the club from 2003 to 2009.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has never been the problem,” said Pogba, who is currently a free agent and has even been linked with a return to United when his doping ban expires next month.

“You have the best striker in history, he absolutely cannot be the problem ever.”

Ronaldo released from Man Utd

Ronaldo spent just under 18 months back at Man Utd after returning to the club from Juventus in the summer of 2021.

But Ronaldo had his contract at Man Utd rescinded in November 2022 in the week leading up to the World Cup.

This came about after Ronaldo blasted Man Utd in an interview with Piers Morgan, accusing the club and key figures of betraying him and trying to force him out.

He slammed then-manager Erik ten Hag, former boss Ralf Rangnick, owners The Glazers and club legends Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.

The interview proved to be the final straw for the club after months of indiscipline and controversy surrounding Ronaldo and his behaviour.

He officially joined Al-Nassr on a free transfer in January 2023.

Ronaldo has enjoyed a goal-filled spell in Saudi Arabia since arriving.

He scored 52 goals in all competitions across 2023, more than anyone in Europe’s big five leagues.

In total, the 39-year-old has scored 88 goals in 97 games. He was Saudi Pro League top scorer for the 2023-24 season.
