OFFICIAL: Tottenham trigger Heung-min Son contract extension
Tottenham have officially exercised their one-year option in Heung-min Son's contract, the club have announced.
Spurs' captain stays on board for at least another season. The South Korean superstar would have been a free agent in the summer, but Tottenham have announced that they have used the option to prolong Son's time in north London until at least 2026.
FootballTransfers confirmed in October that Ange Postecoglou and company were determined to utilise that contract clause to keep the 32-year-old around beyond this season.

Despite his age and something of a form slump this season, Son remains an eminently important part of Tottenham's side. A club legend in the making, the winger has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 17 appearances across all competitions this term.
All told, Son has netted a very impressive 169 goals in 431 outings for Tottenham, while also setting up his teammate 90 times. A popular figure with fans and teammates alike, 'Sonny' will remain at Spurs until the summer of 2026.
Son not won't join Barcelona
Tottenham's confirmation of Son's contract extension comes just a day after the megastar was linked with a sensational move to Barcelona. Spanish media had claimed that the Blaugrana had identified the South Korean as a 'market opportunity' due to his expiring deal.
Due to their financial problems, Barcelona have been forced to make an increasing number of free transfer acquisitions in recent years and Son was viewed as a viable target.

In recent months, Son has also been the subject of some rather bizarre links with Manchester United, while ex-teammate Harry Kane recently admitted that he would love to bring his former partner in crime to Bayern Munich.
However, all of his suitors are set to be disappointed as the Tottenham captain is unlikely to leave anytime soon.
