Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel has rejected Tottenham, according to French media and Fabrizio Romano.

The Frenchman is open to leaving the Bavarians in the final days of the window after Vincent Kompany broke his promise of giving him more game time.

The 19-year-old went into the January window determined to remain at Bayern and fight for his place, but a lack of minutes in recent fixtures has seen him change his mind.

This has attracted the attention of a host of clubs, with Bayern director Max Eberl admitting on Thursday that he had never received such an avalanche of approaches for a single player before.

Tottenham appeared to be leading the race for the 19-year-old after striking a €60 million verbal agreement with Bayern over a permanent transfer, but the final decision was still in the hands of Tel.

Tel rejects Spurs

Now, L'Equipe and Fabrizio Romano report that Tel has decided to reject Spurs despite the club-to-club agreement already being in place.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has personally flown to Munich to convince the youngster to make the move, but it seems that his efforts were in vain. Tel's decision appears to be final unless he has another late change of heart.

This has smashed the door wide open for his other Premier League suitors to reignite their pursuit of the Frenchman, with Man Utd in particular still harbouring hopes of luring him to Old Trafford.

Unlike Spurs, Man Utd are willing to offer an initial loan deal and Sky Germany has reported that such a proposal may hold appeal as Tel would still ultimately like to establish himself at Bayern in the future.

However, the teenager wants assurances of game time, so there is no guarantee that he will opt to join Man Utd. Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa have also enquired about him.

Tel's best chances of regular minutes, however, may actually be found in the Bundesliga. Prior to the explosion of interest in his services, Werder Bremen were linked with a loan for him and a move there, as silly as it may sound, would likely be the most sensible option for his development.
